John Burse, AIA, LEED AP

Principal

John Burse graduated cum laude from Syracuse University and joined the firm in 1997. A skilled designer and master planner, he has worked on many university projects including Truman State, University of Illinois, Stratford Heights for the University of Cincinnati, University of Evansville, IN; Southern Illinois University Student Success Center, Edwardsville, IL; and the University of Nebraska—Lincoln Student Activity Center. He has worked on a range of master plans from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana campus to a six-mile development along the Red Sea in Egypt.

John was one of five individuals in the country recognized by the AIA with a 2004 Young Architects Award, an honor given to those who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career.

He has dedicated over the last ten years toward the revitalization of Old North St. Louis by helping develop both momentum and a vision for development. Passionate about the city, John spent years rehabbing a home in North St. Louis where he and his family live today, while bringing people together in a shared vision of a vibrant, sustainable and diverse village.

His design talent has been acknowledged by the awards he has received—not only for successful buildings, but also for the elegant watercolor drawings he has created.

Active in the community, John is a former chairman of the City of St. Louis Preservation Board, Counselor for the Landmarks Association of St. Louis and President of the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group. His expertise in urban design has made him a frequent participant in public seminars and discussions on the topic. He has also made presentations to the ACUI (Association of College Unions International) on how to design spaces that create a sense of place on college campuses.
