Gene Mackey, FAIA, LEED AP
Founder & Principal
When Gene Mackey founded the firm in 1968, he viewed architecture in the broad framework of society as a whole, considering architecture to be the ultimate "team sport." Since then, the firm has gained a reputation for contextual architecture - developing a body of work that demonstrates genuine concern for tradition and character of space.
Gene received his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master's Degree from Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2002 he received a "Distinguished Alumni" award from Washington University in St. Louis's School of Architecture. Over the years Gene has served on numerous professional committees and in 1991 he was invested into the American Institute of Architect's (AIA) College of Fellows. In addition to winning design awards, the firm has been repeatedly recognized with several "Best Practice" awards.
By continuously improving the caliber of production and providing increasingly responsive client service, the firm has grown steadily over its 40 year history. Attention to quality at all levels, an ability to adapt to a dynamic market, and a commitment to employee development have led to the firm's success.
Gene's most recent recognition was the AIA St. Louis Chapter Gold Honor Award. Former St. Louis Post Dispatch architecture critic commented on Gene's acceptance speech..."What distinguishes his address is precisely what distinguishes his work: elegance, confidence, gravity, an understanding of the eloquence of understatement and an appreciation of beauty and utility, along with generosity, humanity and grace."
