Paul Wuennenberg, AIA, ASAI, LEED AP

Principal

Architect, artist, builder, carpenter, computer whiz, designer, fundraiser, father, gardener, home-builder, illustrator, mentor, principal...these words describe the architect who has been described as a "complete architect"...a "Renaissance man."

Paul graduated from the University of Kansas and finds that architecture is a profession that gives him the opportunity to develop his many interests. His talent for design and construction is nailed into his DNA as securely as determination, artistry, and a genuine sense of humor. He can trace his lineage, generation upon generation, back to Germany where his ancestors were builders, carpenters, and glaziers.

Paul has a rare mix of "left-brain, right-brain" skills. He has design, computer, technical, and people skills, and is also a talented painter and illustrator, now applying his artistic abilities to the computer as he does to painting.

With expertise in student housing design, he was one of only a handful of individuals in the country selected to work on ACUHO'I's (Association for College and University Housing International) "21st Century Project," whose goal was to conceive student residences for the future. At the final presentations, Paul won the "People's Choice Award" for two consecutive years and the most "Compelling Community Award," for his animated documentary: "New Urbanism Meets Student Development." He embraces campus design projects because they have a sense of the past, along with a future. He likes the continuum and being a part of an institution's evolution.

A few years ago, he traced his family genealogy back to Wuennenberg, Germany, a name that means "beautiful hill." His family's tradition of hard work continues in his personal life. Ten years ago he bought several wooded acres in the hills of Eureka MO where he designed and built a home for his family. Sited to take advantage of distant views, he lives in an ever changing landscape "painting" that provides daily inspiration.
