A new 11-story student housing tower is taking shape at the University of Pittsburgh, PA, at University and 5th Streets in the Oakland Civic Center Historic District.  The design passed review by the City Historic Review Commission with its blend of thematic historical elements combined with a modern  twist.  The project has a total of 580 beds along with retail space and a student wellness center in an urban context.  The design features an outdoor terrace for casual dining and student gatherings.  There’s also a student wellness center and a fitness facility. Another striking aspect of the design is an exposed glass center stair which enables students to be more fully engaged with their environment and one another.
