Honoring an Historic Context

As part of a building renovation, a local university needed light fixtures more appropriate for a historic campus building.  After exploring a number of options, the client decided that custom-designed fixtures were needed in order to maintain the space’s architectural integrity.  Gene Mackey and principal Jim Konrad, working with Randy Burkett Lighting Design, developed a variety of fixtures, and were especially pleased to know that they could be manufactured right here in St. Louis. The St. Louis Antique Lighting Co. has fabricated fixtures for the U.S.  Capitol and many other important historic buildings.  All the metal work, including spinning, forging, and finishing is done at their location on Skinker Boulevard.  As architects, Mackey Mitchell appreciates the true craftsmanship, art,  and technologies that are part of the manufacturing process.
