As colleges continue to build residence halls, will students come to fill them?  That’s the question posed in College Planning & Management magazine’s “2011 College Housing Report.” The June, 2011 issue, featuring Mackey Mitchell’s design for the new South 40 House at Washington University in St. Louis on the cover,  presents a comprehensive report based on CPM’s  survey results related to keeping costs in check. The article is loaded with statistics and research findings by author Paul Abramson who for the last nine years has conducted a study on new residence halls.  He looks at the size, cost and amenities of 40 to 50 cooperating institutions and their architects to provide the basic information.  With nine years of data in the bank, Abramson believes it’s possible to draw some pretty convincing conclusions.
