Dynamic Model for Student Housing

According to the Director of Housing and Residential LIfe at the University of Rhode Island, “LLB Architect’s local presence and design strength in combination with Mackey Mitchell’s nationally recognized expertise in the area of student housing has been a ‘home run’ on this project.” Recently featured in the on-line magazine Arch Daily, Hillside Hall represents a dynamic new model for student housing.  Natural light floods the interior which is animated with a rhythmic pattern of colored glass, creating a diverse array of constantly changing shadows.  Collaborative study lounges contribute to the living/learning community.  Configuring bedroom clusters around lounges helps promote a sense of identity and community within the larger complex, reinforcing the social fabric of Hillside Hall. Mackey Mitchell’s project team included Dan Mitchell, John Burse, Steve Emer, Jordan Gatewood, and Kelli Reeves.
