Maintaining a Tradition of Community

Construction is underway for the first phase of Coastal Carolina University’s s new student housing complex. Located just fifteen minutes from Myrtle Beach, the project will include four new student residence halls, providing 1,280 beds to help meet the university’s strategic plan to grow to 12,500 students. Housing will be arranged in communities of five suites grouped around a  common bathroom.

Buildings are sited to create a large green space with two existing ponds and a stand of mature trees. The Georgian-style design features a  large outdoor pavilion for special events to further strengthen the university’s tradition of community interaction which is fueled by more than 120 student clubs and organizations. Construction for Phase II will begin in the fall of 2014.  Mackey Mitchell’s  team includes Steve Emer, Kyle Wagner, Matthew Roeder,  Beth Kutterer, Lea McRoberts, and Avik Guha. Quackenbush is serving as the Architect-of-Record.
