- When the university engaged Mackey Mitchell to craft a residential master plan for the campus, a major challenge was to provide updated facilities and programs without altering the Notre Dame experience.
- After completing the plan, Mackey Mitchell was engaged to design two new student housing projects - one for men (Duncan Hall) and the other for women (Ryan Hall.) Ryan Hall opened its doors to 248 female students in August, 2009, and is the first LEED-certified residential project on the Notre Dame campus. Designed with both green and universal design concepts, the project features lounges, exercise rooms, and large laundry and vending areas.
