Fifth Avenue Freshman Housing
Located in the Oakland Civic Center Historic District, the design passed review by the City Historic Review Commission by incorporating the thematic elements of the existing buildings and adding a modern twist.
- Mackey Mitchell was engaged to design a new 11-story freshman student housing tower with a total of 559 beds on a tight urban site within Pittsburgh's historic district. Configured around public zones, the traditional double bedrooms are served by compartmentalized hall bathrooms for increased privacy.
- Each floor contains laundry facilities as well as two lounges and two studies to encourage student interaction. An exposed glass central stair connects each floor, enabling students to be more fully engaged with the building's community.
- A rooftop terrace provides 190 s eats for casual dining and student gatherings. Additional amenities include retail space, a student wellness center, and a fitness facility.
