• The 21st Century Project is a multi-phased initiative leading to the construction of a new, state-of-the-art residential facillity for colleges and universities. Sponsored by ACUHO-I, the event featured presentations from eight different teams. Finalists were chosen from nearly 50 original submissions that originated from around the world. Each was asked to focus their design on the individual student living unit of a residence hall.
• The Mackey Mitchell/SIU-E design team was recognized with two awards for their residence hall of the future, which has an emphasis on options for privacy, inclusion and community involvement, with a focus on ultimate flexibility.
• In developing the concept, the team considered how future generations would together, encouraging social interaction among groups of all races and age groups.
