PERSONAL PASSIONS: Family, Travel, Early Childhood Development
Marcus graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1994, joined MMA in 1997, and became a firm principal in 2005.
A committed father of three, Marcus is fascinated by the development of raw human potential. This passion motivates and informs his work as an architect, especially in design of learning environments for children with special needs. Recognized nationally as an expert in classroom acoustics, Marcus has been published widely, lectured at four national conferences, and brought leadership to national public policy initiatives in support of new classroom codes and standards. He has contributed to the design of hundreds of classrooms, spanning from early childhood through graduate education, and for populations ranging in ability from developmentally challenged to the highest performing.
Marcus finds the connection between his loves of drawing, architecture, woodworking, and even parenting, to be a love of the process of shaping something truly meaningful to be enjoyed by future generations.

Joining MMA’s St. Louis office in 2022, Paola brings architecture experience in project design and project management on a variety of building types, including commercial, multi-family mixed-use, and higher education. Viewing each new project as an opportunity to meet and learn from new people, Paola is most passionate about design that is informed by deeply understanding the communities and people who use them. She is especially drawn to projects with specialized programs or ones with challenging design problems that require creative solutions, and she enjoys exploring new workflows and learning new skills to improve both efficiency and quality of her work.
Outside of her career, Paola is very involved in initiatives to improve communities having collaborated and led several organizations that are advocating for women in the profession, inclusion, and equitable design, including Hawthorn Leadership School of Girls, COCA, Rung for Women, and Litshop. She is currently an active leader of the AIA St. Louis Women in Architecture Forum, AIA J.E.D.I and Community Engagement Committees.
HOMETOWN: St. Louis, Missouri
PERSONAL PASSIONS: Trumpet, Politics, Urban Design
A native of St. Louis, Jake Banton joined MMA in 2015 and he has amassed a significant volume of work, including contributing to over $500 million worth of construction projects for more than a dozen universities as well as local projects. In addition to architecture, Jake is involved in various firm initiatives and committees to strengthen firm culture and processes. These include spearheading the firm’s Events and Culture Committee and establishing a Sustainability Committee tasked with engaging coworkers and clients to think more sustainably and adopt environmentally-conscious design solutions.
Jake’s devotion to St. Louis and the architecture profession has led to his involvement in several community organizations as well as being appointed to the Forest Park Advisory Board and the City of St. Louis Planning Commission, where he is currently serving as the commission’s licensed architect. In 2019, Jake was selected as a St. Louis 30 Under 30 award recipient by the St. Louis Business Journal, and in 2022 Jake was nominated to serve on the AIA Missouri Board of Directors.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Community Involvement, Plants, Biking, Travel
Christina is a licensed architect in Missouri with nationwide experience in education, corporate, and civic projects. She believes architecture impacts our daily lives, and this drives her to meet clients’ strategic needs on every project. As a designer, Christina excels at turning complex problems into thoughtful solutions. An advocate for cutting-edge technology, she contributes to the Extended Reality software implementation and is a licensed drone pilot.
Beyond the office, Christina actively supports organizations, aiming to strengthen architects’ ties to local community needs and advocate for young professionals in leadership roles. She currently serves on the AIA St. Louis Board of Directors and is the Vice Chair for the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program. Native to St. Louis, she finds inspiration in historic architecture and is passionate about the ongoing development and revitalization efforts that are happening throughout the city.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: An avid fly fisherman, John’s current dream trip would be to stalk king salmon in the Alaskan wilderness.
John’s passion is design which fosters community. He oversees the design for many higher-ed student life projects, including dining, residential halls, academic spaces and student centers. His particular area of expertise is student centers, where he applies his love for creating community. John’s leadership style is engaging, thoughtful and enjoyable and emphasizes design as a collaborative journey.
His work creates vibrant campus social hearts that are achievable, efficient, welcoming, comfortable and inspiring. His designs for student centers have been recognized by the Association of College Unions International’s Facility Design Award of Excellence. John is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences for ACUI, ACUHO-I, and SCUP. His experience includes planning and design of residence halls, dining centers, performing arts facilities, academic facilities, and campuses.
John enjoys giving back to the community – helping to lead community development efforts of the nationally recognized Old North St. Louis Restoration Group, past chairmanship of the City’s Preservation Board. His leadership was recognized with a national AIA Young Architect’s Award, as well as a Focus St. Louis “What’s Right with the Region Award.” He has been featured in Architectural Record, Competitions, Marketplace, and Metropolis.
John Burse joined Mackey Mitchell Architects in 1997, and was named a Principal in 2005.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Volunteering, Creative Projects, Reading, and Time with Family
Ashley joins the team as a Marketing Coordinator, bringing experience in content creation, social media management, and proposal support. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Bradley University and has supported multidisciplinary teams across architecture and engineering, helping translate ideas into clear and engaging communications.
She is drawn to the design industry for its ability to shape how people experience and connect with spaces. While not a designer herself, she enjoys contributing to the storytelling behind each project, helping communicate the impact of the built environment in a thoughtful and accessible way.
With a strong desire to support others, Ashley is involved with the Kellsie’s Hope Foundation, a nonprofit that provides opportunities for children with cancer and their families. She values being part of efforts that create meaningful impact, both within her work and in her community.
Outside of the office, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially her nephew, Cooper. She can often be found reading, working on craft projects like needlepoint, or keeping up with her favorite shows.
HOMETOWN: Caguas, Puerto Rico
PERSONAL PASSIONS: Learning new languages, traveling, gardening, board games
Since graduating from Drury University in 2021 receiving his Master of Architecture and Bachelors in Art History with honors, Javier has worked on a portfolio of projects dedicated to community and urban design. This includes completing comprehensive plans, neighborhood plans, and resiliency plans for municipalities, non-profits, and private interest groups across the St. Louis region. Javier’s experience in planning over the last three years instilled his passion for community-driven design and impactful architecture, a mission he brings with him to Mackey Mitchell.
Through a cross-disciplinary lens, Javier brings fresh perspectives to design and believes architecture is an opportunity to connect with people and tell stories. His passion for storytelling is evident in his production of design visioning, analysis, and graphics from schematic design to technical drawings for projects.
Outside of the office Javier is involved with STL J.E.D.I. programs committee and Pocketparks STL, which helps maintain and provide active recreational areas to underserved communities in St. Louis. When he is not at work Javier can be found caring for his community garden, eating sweets, planning his next trip, or watching movies with his dog Copper.
HOMETOWN: Ridgewood, New Jersey
PERSONAL PASSIONS: Travel, History, Food
Steve graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 1986 and a Master of Architecture from Rice University in 1989. He joined Mackey Mitchell in 1996, was named Principal in 2008, and in 2013 was unanimously elected President of the company.
With a primary focus on student housing projects for higher education clients, Steve’s depth and breadth of experience in all phases of project development enables him to lead teams with confidence and a well-honed ability to listen. He has a steady and deliberate nature coupled with a witty sense of humor and is dedicated to working with the team and client to find solutions that are uniquely appropriate and specifically tailored to their needs.
As an architect with a passion for history, Steve relishes digging deep to better understand the key attributes that contribute to the culture and sense of a place unique to each institution. He is a former Kirkwood Landmarks Commissioner and volunteer advisor to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Renovation Committee in Old North St Louis.
Steve enjoys traveling, especially to the beach. Favorite destinations include San Francisco, New Orleans, Charleston, and Key West. He is also an avid Rock music fan and loves reading biographies and military histories.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Family, Lego, and Halestorm
Joe graduated from Texas Tech University with a Master of Architecture in 2011 and joined the MMA Texas team in 2024.
Joe’s journey in architecture is intertwined with his personal story of resilience. After a hiking accident resulted in an incomplete spinal cord injury, Joe became actively involved in the adaptive community, participating in wheelchair sports and exercise. This experience has deepened his commitment to accessibility in design, ensuring that our projects consider the needs of all users. Joe shares, “I love building things and am thrilled to apply my multifamily housing expertise to student environments.”
Outside of work, Joe’s interests reflect his creative spirit and zest for life. He’s an avid collector of the Lego architecture series and a proud member of DFWLUG, a Lego-sponsored adult fan group. A self-proclaimed rock music enthusiast, Joe has seen his favorite band, Halestorm, perform live 11 times. In between concerts and movies, Joe loves spending quality time with his wife.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Family, Outdoors, Home Renovation
Margie joined the firm in 1990 and became a senior associate in 2007.
Margie has performed several important roles at Mackey Mitchell, including Project Administrator and most recently Accounting. Margie is passionate about her work and is on a mission to make sure every architect understands his/her project budget, helping to break down the number of billable hours per project phase. Margie ensures that MMA pays our bills promptly, and she’s willing to provide invoices that meet clients’ preferences when it comes to timing and the way they want to see time and details displayed.
No matter how busy her job, Margie always makes time to listen to people’s problems and to assist them whenever she can. Margie is the very proud mother of two sons – one of whom is a U.S. Army paratrooper and the other is a junior at Truman State University.

Following a successful internship with Mackey Mitchell, Maureen Ferguson is excited to join the team full time. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University, where her academic path included an enriching year of study abroad in Europe that deepened her globally informed design perspective.
Maureen’s design philosophy is detail-oriented and rooted in the idea of design as a social and cultural tool. She is energized by the potential for architecture to influence human interaction before, during, and after design. Maureen brings with her a strong interest in accessible design, adaptive reuse, and community-centered spaces, aligning perfectly with MMA’s mission.
Outside of the office, Maureen enjoys thrift shopping, attending concerts, sewing, taking fitness classes, and spending time with friends and family.

Sara holds an undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado Denver. Since returning to St. Louis in 2015, she has continued to grow her professional and personal roots, building lasting connections within a vibrant community of educators, designers, and collaborators.
Since joining Mackey Mitchell in 2019, Sara has focused on designing educational environments that are both innovative and inclusive. Her work blends creativity with practicality, balancing big-picture vision with thoughtful execution to help clients create meaningful impact. As a leader of the firm’s Learning Environment Innovations (LEI) market, she specializes in master planning and engagement, guiding a wide range of schools, including independent, K–12, early childhood, and special needs, in reimagining what learning spaces can and should be.
For Sara, design is about more than buildings. It begins with listening, asking the right questions, and crafting solutions rooted in the unique needs and purpose of each community.
Outside the office, Sara and her husband spend much of their time wrangling their two adorable daughters and rescue pups while diving into a steady stream of DIY projects.

As a Principal, Greg brings decades of experience, a steady leadership style, and a deep commitment to mentorship and design excellence. With the opening of the Dallas office, Greg’s role has evolved from Senior Associate and Project Manager to a senior leadership position, where he now plays a key part in strategic efforts to enhance the quality of the firm’s deliverables—from drawings and specifications to client communication and service.
Greg thrives on the complexity and uniqueness of each project. His long tenure at Mackey Mitchell has given him a well-rounded perspective on the profession, and he finds renewed purpose in mentoring younger staff and sharing the knowledge he’s gained over the years.
Now in a reflective phase of his career, Greg is focused on making a lasting impact, helping shape the future of Mackey Mitchell through thoughtful guidance and meaningful project work. Joining MMA in the Lawrence, KS office in 2019, Nick brings a background ranging in experience from architectural design, coordination, and construction management, to master planning and marketing support. His background serving in many roles across a variety of project types allows him to design with anticipation of construction and see the projects through with care for design objectives.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys creating music, a hobby which he feels creates a unique balance with his love for architecture. “The more I exercise design thinking, the more I see parallels in music composition. Both in architecture and in music; patterns, exceptions to patterns, resulting focus and movement are the foundation to the experience,” Nick explains. Being an alumni of the University of Kansas, Nick feels at home with an ever-growing group of Jayhawks at Mackey Mitchell.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Fatherhood, Home Renovation, Music
Led by a passion to elevate the human experience through design, Jordan works with clients to plan and design environments focused on community, sustainability, and the user experience. As a Higher Ed Student Life market leader at Mackey Mitchell, Jordan collaborates with colleges and universities to shape the student experience on campuses across the country. His projects include campus master plans, new and renovated residence halls, housing master plans, campus dining, student health and other student life facilities. Jordan’s deep experience in residential life design has provided the basis for articles on housing trends and several presentations at ACUHO-I conferences where he has presented on topics such as designing for well-being, living-learning communities, and housing master planning.
Jordan holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. His love for campus life carries over to the classroom having taught courses at Washington University in St. Louis and sitting on student design reviews whenever possible. In the community he has been an Associate Board member at COCA and provided pro bono services to many local non-profits. When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, traveling, renovating his house, and playing his bass guitar.

Michael joins Mackey Mitchell as a summer architectural intern for the second year in a row, bringing an interest in thoughtful, community-centered design. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a minor in Anthropology. He is continuing at WashU as a Master of Architecture candidate at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.
His passion for architecture began in high school drafting classes, where he discovered the creative potential of precise technical drawing. That interest grew through hands-on experience with mixed-use and residential planning projects focused on environmental preservation. He has contributed to the design and presentation of developments that integrate housing, commercial space, and hospitality while protecting sensitive landscapes, including Florida wetlands.
With a strong interest in anthropology and geoarchaeology, Michael views architecture as both an artifact and an agent of change. He believes thoughtful design can preserve cultural memory, respond to evolving social needs, and create meaningful, lasting spaces.
Outside the studio, Michael enjoys fishing, photographing cityscapes, watching Formula 1, and spending time with his Bengal cats, Sake and Mochi. His guilty pleasure? Sour Patch Watermelon, an entire bag, if you let him.

As a Principal at Mackey Mitchell Architects, Andrew Gilles is dedicated to elevating design excellence across the firm. With over two decades of experience spanning healthcare, education, research, and public environments, he brings a deep curiosity and collaborative spirit to every project. Andrew believes great design is a team sport rooted in mutual respect, creativity, and fearless iteration.
A strong advocate for design culture, Andrew has led firmwide efforts to establish design standards and integrate creativity into the firm’s operational DNA. He’s passionate about architecture’s ability to create moments of surprise, calm, and connection, whether through the framing of a view, the play of light, or a quiet pause in a busy space.
Outside of work, Andrew can often be found hiking, kayaking, or planning his next mountain adventure. A lover of nature and a lifelong learner, he enjoys gardening, exploring the outdoors with his dog, Piper, and trying to ferment everything from beer to kimchi.

As Marketing Manager, Emily leads firmwide marketing strategy with a strong emphasis on public relations, brand storytelling, and business development. With a background in communications and a deep appreciation for design, she is passionate about translating complex ideas into compelling narratives that spotlight the meaningful work of architects. Her role allows her to combine her love of storytelling with the opportunity to collaborate closely with creative minds, work she finds both inspiring and energizing.
Outside the office, Emily enjoys decorating Airbnbs, making hand-poured soy candles, and tending to her flower garden. She’s always up for a good book or a binge-worthy show, often accompanied by her rescue beagle mix, Stevie Nicks. An avid traveler, Emily values quality time with loved ones and draws inspiration from new places, people, and experiences.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Baseball, Cars, Reading, Traveling
Cody earned a Master of Architecture from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology from Ranken Technical College. He brings nearly 20 years of architectural experience to MMA, including designing high-performance spaces that support research, teaching, and the people who use these facilities every day.
At Mackey Mitchell, Cody is especially interested in leveraging the intersection of science and learning in shaping campus environments. He enjoys working through complex technical requirements while keeping the user experience at the forefront, creating spaces that are flexible, durable, and built for long-term performance.
Originally from Ste. Genevieve, Cody is a lifelong Cardinals fan and plays in a couple of softball leagues. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his wife and has visited 45 states and seven countries.
HOMETOWN: Winchester, MA
PERSONAL PASSIONS: Sandwiches, both creating them and eating, complex board games, beer, making mead, and grilling.
With a strong background in IT infrastructure management, Nick Hawksworth brings extensive expertise in network Troubleshooting, server maintenance, and desktop support as MMA’s IT Administrator.
Committed to delivering exceptional client service, Nick possesses strong follow-up skills and works effectively within team structures. He holds an Associate’s degree in Computer Software and Network System Technology. His area of expertise outside of the IT realm is in 3D printing. “I really enjoy helping support a team of people who are making positive change in the world. 3D printing is complex and has so many different uses and applications from trinkets to models to parts and tools.”
Outside of work, Nick’s passions extend beyond technology. He is an accomplished Eagle Scout, demonstrating his commitment to personal growth and community involvement. Nick enjoys grilling, crafting delicious sandwiches, playing intricate board games, and savoring a well-crafted beer. His diverse interests and vibrant personality contribute to a well-rounded individual who brings enthusiasm and creativity to both his personal pursuits and professional endeavors.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Family, Church, Running
With an extensive background in interior design and space planning, Merrilee finds innovative solutions to create award-winning spaces that are both inviting and infused with identity. Merrilee’s engaging personality allows her to develop close relationships with clients to fully understand their needs and make well-informed project decisions. Her experience has placed her at the speaker’s podium of many prominent national industry events, often presenting on transforming spaces and creative problem solving through design. Leading MMA’s Dallas office, Merrilee oversees the firm’s projects in Texas.
Service to others is at the core of how Merrilee lives her life. She appreciates every opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of other people which is why she enjoys creating spaces for others to enjoy. She is the mother of two daughters and the wife of a teacher. When she has an opportunity, she enjoys running and endurance racing.

Kim joined Mackey Mitchell in 1997 as a Project Assistant; she is currently the Human Resources Director and has been a Senior Associate since 2005.
Kim studied to be a nurse, but lucky for us she ended up here. She transitioned into the role of Human Resources in 2018. With her gentle, soft-spoken, and nurturing spirit, she is an advocate for our employees on benefits, engagement, and growth. She also helps organize the firm’s social events, helping make it a great place to work.
A self-described book nerd and music enthusiast, she also enjoys hiking and taking photographs around her small town in Southern Illinois where she lives with her husband and two sons.

Baili Justice, a talented addition to Mackey Mitchell Architects, hails originally from Dublin, Ohio. With a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design from Bowling Green State University, Baili further honed her skills by recently completing her Master of Architecture program at WashU. Her dedication to architecture stems from a genuine fascination with crafting spaces where people spend significant portions of their lives. Witnessing the positive impact that well-designed spaces can have on individuals’ daily lives and observing users naturally engaging with thoughtfully implemented design details is a gratifying experience for Baili.
Baili spends her free time immersed in various activities such as hiking, running, swimming, and skiing during the winter months. As a devoted cat and plant enthusiast, Baili embraces the joy of being a cat mom and plant mom, nurturing her two beloved feline companions, Harley and Ollie, and tending to her flourishing collection of house plants. Additionally, she finds solace in the art of knitting, finding it a calming and rewarding pastime while indulging in TV shows.

Ain Jun joins Mackey Mitchell as a summer intern and a rising fifth-year Bachelor of Architecture student at Syracuse University’s School of Architecture and Renee Crown Honors College. He is also an active member of Alpha Rho Chi, the national fraternity for architecture and the allied arts. Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Ain brings a creative background shaped by architecture, music, culinary arts, and fabrication.
Drawn to the process of making things that others can experience and enjoy, Ain has worked as a professional chef, songwriter, independent artist, and architectural intern. This multidisciplinary background informs his interest in design that begins with people and creates spaces that feel thoughtful, responsive, and engaging.
At Mackey Mitchell, Ain is excited to learn more about Learning Environment Innovation and the design of specialized education spaces. He is especially interested in MMA’s work with Deaf and Blind communities, including how acoustic performance, technical knowledge, and inclusive design can support meaningful learning environments.
Outside of architecture, Ain spends much of his time making music, cooking, and exploring new sources of creative inspiration. His recent study abroad experience in London gave him the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and experience a range of cultures, cities, and built environments.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Design, Rock climbing, Exploring New Design Technology, My Cats
A St. Louis native, Marshall brings a thoughtful, design-focused perspective to Mackey Mitchell. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a minor in Fine Arts and a Master of Architecture, Marshall first became part of the Mackey Mitchell team as an architectural intern. Now returning as a Design Associate, he brings both familiarity with the firm’s collaborative culture and a growing depth of experience across design, documentation, research, and presentation.
Before rejoining Mackey Mitchell, Marshall worked on healthcare, education, research, and public building projects, contributing to more than 30 projects across all phases of design. His experience also includes teaching as an adjunct lecturer at Washington University and serving on an Innovation CORE team focused on refining workflows, implementing scripts, and exploring emerging tools for design and production.
Marshall is especially interested in the role technology plays in the design process. He is drawn to the opportunity to better understand the needs of clients and institutions, then translate those insights into well-crafted spaces that elevate the experience of the people they serve. He has long respected Mackey Mitchell’s thoughtful approach to listening closely to both client and context, and he brings that same curiosity and care to his work.
Outside the office, Marshall enjoys rock climbing and spending time at home with his four cats, two of whom were rescued.

Beth graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 2005. After returning to her hometown from living in South Florida, she joined Mackey Mitchell in 2012 and quickly embraced the challenges of designing and constructing for higher education. Her varied experience and easygoing personality have helped her become an integral part of many successful projects while at Mackey Mitchell. Some of her favorite projects have been working on new student housing for Coastal Carolina University, creating a new home for the Physician Assistant Program at Stephens College, and working closely alongside SIUE’s School of Nursing to envision their new spaces.
Beth is a mother to two adorable boys who constantly keep her on her toes, which helps explain her ability to be so nimble on projects. Her interests include baking, antiquing, home restoration, and she considers herself quite the foodie! She chairs the Columbia (Illinois) Historic Preservation Commission and is a member of the Columbia (Illinois) Architectural Review Board.

Joining MMA in 2024 as a Design Associate, Megan holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Nevada, Reno. Megan specializes in mixed-use and multi-family residential projects, as well as K-12 educational facilities.
Megan previously served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UT Arlington’s College of Architecture, Planning & Public Affairs, where she shared her expertise with aspiring architects. She is passionate about how architecture fosters collaboration within communities.
An outdoor enthusiast, Megan loves softball, skiing, hiking, camping, and beach days. Currently on the path to becoming a licensed architect, Megan is actively involved in various AIA Dallas committees, demonstrating her commitment to professional growth and community engagement.

Holding a Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Francisco brings over ten years of expertise and passion to MMA. His journey spans architectural design, project management, academic roles, and community engagement. Leveraging his extensive industry knowledge, Francisco possesses an exceptional ability to forge meaningful connections with clients.
He’s a co-chair at AIA St. Louis, leading the Higher Education Subcommittee and contributing to K-12 initiatives, aimed at engaging students across age groups through mediums like career fairs, presentations, and panel discussions.
In his downtime, Francisco enjoys playing bass guitar, golfing, and traveling. His 2016 European adventure deepened his love for travel and architecture, fueling inspiration for his work.

Olivia is pursuing a BFA in Interior Design at Iowa State University, where she is exploring the connection between creativity, storytelling, and the technical details that bring spaces to life.
Her interest in interior design began with The Sims, where she spent more time designing and building homes than playing the game itself. Encouraged by her family to see that creativity as a possible career, Olivia began shaping a path that blends imagination with purpose. Since then, she has gained experience through multiple summer internships, supporting project teams with product coordination, site visits, and design development. She has also served as a drawing peer mentor, helping incoming design students build confidence in their creative abilities.
This summer, Olivia is excited to continue growing through hands-on experience with Revit, construction documents, and the collaborative design process. She is especially drawn to higher education, hospitality, workplace, and adaptive reuse projects, where thoughtful design can give existing spaces new energy, purpose, and meaning.
Outside the studio, Olivia enjoys all things art and is currently minoring in Art. She also loves music, plays piano, and enjoys singing with her sister. Her curiosity for place, history, and architecture deepened during a semester abroad in Rome, where she fell in love with Italy’s layered and enduring built environment. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and being with her two dogs, who keep life interesting.

PERSONAL PASSIONS: Urban Design, History, Exploration
Noah joined MMA in 2025 after earning dual Master’s degrees in Architecture and Architectural Culture and History from Washington University in St. Louis. With seven years of experience in architecture and architectural history, he has worked on projects ranging from historic preservation and adaptive reuse to prototype design and residential developments.
During his graduate studies, Noah focused on innovative, community-driven design, culminating in a mixed-use infill project in historic Alton, IL. This project reflected his passion for creating thoughtful urban spaces that balance cultural heritage with modern needs—a perspective he brings to his work at MMA. Noah also wrote a comprehensive history of the first residential building code, and is intending to continue his historical research on the subject of building code.
Off the clock, Noah enjoys exploring the city of St. Louis on foot and bike. He also enjoys grand strategy games, watching Star Trek with his cat Salem, reading, and studying historical city development. He strives to blend his passions into his work at MMA.

Returning to the St. Louis office, Hannah rejoins Mackey Mitchell after previously working with the firm from 2017 to 2019. She brings a people-first approach to university work, single and multifamily housing, historic renovation, and civic and cultural projects. Hannah especially enjoys the programming phase, building trust with clients and end users, and shaping welcoming “third places” that feel familiar from the start.
Hannah earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Kansas in 2017. Her thesis explored modular housing for seniors aging in place, integrating population health technology and smart materials. She is now a licensed architect in the state of Missouri and a proud member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
In 2021, she co-founded a Women in Architecture group in Colorado Springs, where local design professionals connect and share their work. Outside the studio, she enjoys walks with her dog, Eddie; cooking for friends and family; house projects; travel; and concerts with her husband.

Hailing from Muscat, Oman, Jewel D’Cruz joined MMA’s Dallas office in 2022 as a summer intern, focusing on Interior Design. Following her successful internship, she returned to the firm as a full-time Interior Designer in 2023. Jewel holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from the University of Texas, and her expertise brings a fresh perspective to the team. She is particularly passionate about sustainable and inclusive design, striving to create spaces that have a positive impact on the people who use them.
Beyond her work at MMA, Jewel actively serves on the Board for the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). In her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, engaging in sports, and embracing the beauty of the great outdoors.

Kelly joined MMA’s Dallas office in 2019 following her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Arlington and graduate school at the University of Virginia, including a study abroad program in Italy. First drawn to architecture through her early interest in art, Kelly most enjoys site planning, compositional aspects, and the human connection of architecture. “The ability to use buildings as a medium to create unique and exciting experiences that improve the lives of people is something that I love about my career,” Kelly explained.
Outside of architecture, Kelly enjoys reading, playing video games, and hiking and camping with her husband. Being adventurers and lovers of the outdoors, they have set a goal to visit as many US National Parks as possible. Already checked off the list: Big Bend, Bryce, Gateway Arch, Rocky Mountain, Shenandoah, and Zion National Park.

Chris joined Mackey Mitchell in 2022 bringing a depth of experience in project management and architecture across several market sectors ranging from senior living to hospitality and retail to medical spaces. When asked about his favorite parts of architecture, his answers share a common thread: the details. “A lot of my interests lie in how things go together. I like to pride myself in putting together a good set of construction documents that a contractor can pick up and build successfully,” he explained.
Outside of Mackey Mitchell, you can find Chris utilizing his creative mind and skillset through woodworking and home remodeling.

Tom graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1990. He joined the firm in 1995 and became a principal in 2006.
Tom divides his work at Mackey Mitchell between designing and managing renovation projects and leading the firm’s technology research, development, and implementation. Tom’s intense and genuine curiosity encourages him to examine all aspects of a project, helping clients understand abstract design ideas as well as collaborating with field workers about construction details.
Tom’s personal passion is to instill the “why” habit into young people and teach them how to make things with their hands. He brings all of this together in his personal home & studio project, a 13,000sf renovation of a 100+ year old Southwestern Bell Telephone building he is undertaking with his significant other, Sue. Kristen is an experienced designer and marketer specializing in brand development, content creation, and visual storytelling. She has worked across several industries, including architecture, interior design, commercial real estate, and more, leading creative teams and developing impactful marketing materials. Known for her strategic approach to design and communications, she ensures brand consistency across multiple platforms.
Her work has earned industry recognition, including GDUSA, Hermes Creative, and MarCom Awards. Kristen holds a B.A. in Advertising from the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as an associate degree in Graphic Design and a certification in User Experience Design from SMU. She is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the American Marketing Association (AMA), and the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS).
Outside of work, Kristen is a proud mom to two children, Caleb and Olivia, and a dog mom to two spirited black Lab mixes. She enjoys hiking, watching documentaries, visiting art museums, and spending time painting with watercolors or sketching.

Adam’s interest in architecture began with a simple curiosity about how places shape the way people feel and interact every day. He joined Mackey Mitchell with a desire to create spaces that are not only functional, but meaningful to the people who use them. While much of his early career focused on corporate interiors, his work has expanded in recent years to include healthcare environments, where thoughtful design can have a direct impact on comfort, wellbeing, and experience.
At his core, Adam is motivated by the challenge of finding the best possible solution within real-world constraints and collaborating with teams to bring ideas to life. He values Mackey Mitchell’s culture of curiosity and lifelong learning and enjoys being part of a studio where mentorship and shared knowledge are part of the everyday process.
Outside the office, Adam is an enthusiastic traveler who has visited more than 30 countries and is always planning the next destination. When he is not exploring a new city, you can often find him on the golf course, happy to play a round whenever the opportunity arises.

Matthew graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2003. He joined Mackey Mitchell in 2007 and became a Senior Associate in 2010.
Leading design teams through both small and large-scale student housing projects, including several P3 projects, has allowed Matthew the opportunity to work with clients and associate architects all over the country, including on major campuses in the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC. In addition to his expertise in student housing, Matthew is also an expert in early childcare centers, having designed projects for corporate and not-for-profit clients.
With a passion for architecture that has been with him since he was a child and continues today, Matthew dedicates his time and skills to serving the local community. He is in charge of the Facilities Ministry at his church where he leads volunteer and professional teams through the ongoing renovation of a 100-year-old facility. His biggest passion is serving his wife, Lynette, and raising their four young daughters.

Along with his exceptional team leadership skills, Dan brings strength to the project team with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of creating a balance between design and constructability.

Caitlin is a certified interior designer (NCIDQ) with a Bachelor of Architecture and Certificate in Planning from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She earned her Master of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, where she also served as a teaching assistant at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. Her studies took her abroad for summer design programs in Paris and Barcelona, further fueling her passion for thoughtful, human-centered design.
Since joining Mackey Mitchell in 2015, Caitlin has brought creativity and care to every project, with a growing focus on the relationship between planning, interiors, and the user experience.
A proud St. Louis resident, Caitlin is eager to deepen her community involvement through volunteer work. Destiny Silva, the MMA Business Development Manager, brings over a decade of marketing and business development experience in the A/E/C industry to MMA’s Dallas office. Her professional background includes working for MMA Engineering, Dunaway Associates, and MULTATECH. In her new position, Destiny will collaborate with Mackey Mitchell’s leadership and marketing team to create and execute growth strategies that focus on clients in Texas, while delivering exceptional service to current clients.
Apart from her professional endeavors, Destiny is an active member of various organizations in her community. She supports The Women’s Center of Tarrant County, iWire North Texas, Junior League of Fort Worth, and the Real Estate Council of Dallas. She is also the Membership Director of SMPS North Texas, where she has been a member since 2013 and was honored with the “Member of the Year” award in 2019. Through her involvement in these groups, she strives to make a positive impact in her industry.

Amanda Sullivan brings a passion for community-focused design to her role as a Project Architect at MMA. With a career dedicated to public service and community projects, she thrives on creating meaningful environments where people work, live, and play, believing that architecture has the power to help individuals achieve their best and pursue their dreams—a philosophy that drives her work at MMA. This philosophy extends to her commitment to education and the next generation, as she serves as a Facility Committee Advisor for Kairos Academies, helping shape spaces that support future learners and leaders.
Beyond her architectural expertise, Amanda is a lifelong learner and creative spirit. Whether she’s tackling home renovation projects, sketching with her niece for Inktober52, capturing moments through photography, or crafting with upcycled materials at Perennial, her curiosity and artistry shine through.
Amanda is also deeply committed to bringing people together. She has organized community events through Humanist Hangouts of Ethical Society, previously led a Meetup group, and continues to foster connections in both professional and social spaces. Kevin brings more than two decades of architectural experience, shaped by the evolution of design technology from CAD to BIM. Since joining Mackey Mitchell in 2009, he has supported design, coordination, and documentation across a wide range of projects, with a special focus on Deaf education and learning environments. Today, as a Senior Associate, Architect, and Deaf Education Design leader, Kevin brings technical depth, thoughtful coordination, and a deeply personal perspective to the work.
A graduate of Illinois School for the Deaf and NTID/RIT, Kevin’s connection to Deaf education is both professional and personal. His lived experience, architectural background, and insight into Deaf culture help project teams think more carefully about communication, visibility, accessibility, belonging, and student success. He has also served on committees and advisory boards for several Deaf schools, keeping him connected to current trends and needs across Deaf education communities.
After 11 years in the St. Louis office, Kevin, his wife, and their two daughters moved to Texas, where he now works from Mackey Mitchell’s Dallas office. Outside the studio, he enjoys the extended pool season, exploring the landscape and history of the South and West, and sampling barbecue, Tex-Mex, and craft breweries. Even from Texas, his St. Louis roots remain strong. At home, you may still find him cheering for the Cardinals, Blues, and CITY SC.

Joining MMA in 2024 as Office Manager, Korri holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts from Troy University. While her background isn’t in architecture, Korri is fascinated by the process of transforming ideas into spaces where people live and connect. Her focus on smooth office operations allows our architects and designers to concentrate on creating inspiring environments.
Outside of work, Korri’s diverse interests showcase her dedication and versatility. She once completed a marathon and competed in a powerlifting meet within six months. In her free time, Korri enjoys exploring St. Louis, spending time with friends, and relaxing with a good book and coffee.

With over fifteen years of experience in interior design and architecture, Ivon brings a wealth of expertise to the MMA architectural team. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated her ability to excel in diverse architectural projects, ranging from hospitality and commercial to healthcare and education. Her strengths lie in problem-solving within design contexts, space planning, and producing construction documents. Ivon is dedicated to creating inspired spaces that are functional and conducive to building strong client relationships.
Originally from Indonesia, Ivon cherishes her small family and enjoys cooking, traveling, and playing poker with friends in her free time. She pursued her schooling abroad at The Ohio State University, a decision that greatly influenced her personal and professional growth.

As a CityStudioSTL Fellow intern at Mackey Mitchell, Christopher Tobin brings a thoughtful, human-centered approach to design shaped by his dual master’s studies in Architecture and Urban Design at Washington University in St. Louis. A recipient of both the Sam Fox Ambassador Graduate Fellowship and the Ann W. and Spencer T. Olin-Chancellor’s Fellowship, Chris is deeply engaged in socially responsive design work that reflects his belief in architecture’s power to inspire connection, promote wellness, and support equity.
Chris’s commitment to inclusive and community-driven design is rooted in personal experience and empathy. From directing an architecture camp for middle school students to supporting a nonprofit youth center through architectural design, his work has consistently focused on engaging and empowering others through the built environment.
At Mackey Mitchell, Chris is excited to expand his knowledge in participatory design and learn how to create spaces with—not just for—communities. Outside the studio, you’ll likely find him exploring a trail, snapping photos, or slowly chipping away at his goal to summit all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks.

Geoff Vaughn joined MMA in 2022 bringing more than 15 years of experience in healthcare design, including hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and operating rooms. He is adept in both new construction and renovations with specific expertise in phased renovations. When starting a project, Geoff identifies both project goals and client values in order to find ways to infuse those values into the project while also improving outcomes. What he most enjoys about architecture is being able to positively impact and improve lives through design and the built environment.
Geoff is heavily involved in AIA and advancing their initiatives. He has provided leadership to the organization having been appointed to several roles including AIA Missouri Director and AIA St. Louis President, among others. Outside of work, he enjoys building furniture, renovating his house, and spending time with his family.

Cynthia joins Mackey Mitchell as an architectural intern with a thoughtful interest in how space can shape well-being, climate, storytelling, and the everyday experience of the people who use it. Cynthia came to St. Louis to study architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and is currently pursuing her Master of Architecture.
Drawn first to the creativity of the field, Cynthia’s interest in architecture has grown into a deeper curiosity about problem-solving through drawings, models, diagrams, and user experience. She is especially interested in the way architecture can bring together multiple disciplines, connecting human needs, environmental responsibility, and meaningful design narratives.
At Mackey Mitchell, Cynthia is excited to learn more about the professional practice of architecture and begin applying the skills she has developed in school to real-world projects. She is particularly interested in the firm’s campus life work and how design can respond thoughtfully to its surrounding campus environment.
Outside the studio, Cynthia enjoys getting lost in a good book, especially fantasy novels, and spending time running. After graduate school, she hopes to train for a half-marathon.

Kyle graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1996, and then with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2000. He joined the firm in 2002, and was named a principal in 2012.
After 10 years in the Mackey Mitchell St. Louis office, Kyle moved to Asheville, NC to launch a new branch office to better serve the southeast region. As Principal in Charge of the North Carolina office, Kyle continues to work with universities and colleges across the south, and he enjoys promoting Asheville’s celebrated artisans—most recently through the design of a new glass blowing studio and gallery. As a LEED Accredited Professional, Kyle also promotes environmentally responsible architecture for good health and happiness.
Outside of work, Kyle has been a Habitat volunteer, led a number of award-winning CANstruction teams, and was a long time contributor to the ACE Mentoring program in St. Louis. Husband, marathon runner and yoga enthusiast, Kyle attributes his daily happiness to a loving wife and dog, frequent exercise, healthy eating, and a passion for good design.

Jennifer graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master of Architecture degree in 2001. She then moved to North Carolina where she first worked for a historic preservation specialist for six years and then focused on higher education for seven years. She joined Mackey Mitchell in 2016.
Jennifer has experienced higher education from many facets, including a jobs as an RA and in the Facilities department at Illinois, and as an adjunct instructor in historic interiors and furniture at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. As an architect, she is adept at understanding the culture and goals of each institution, and facilitating project development with those goals in mind. Her past project experience includes new campus buildings and building renovations that respect the historic context of campus while promoting the university’s values and aspirations. She has worked at Wake Forest University, Salem College, Duke University, Elon University, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She lives with her husband and two children in an old house in Edwardsville, Illinois, where she also serves on the Historic Preservation Commission. With her family she enjoys being outdoors, working on their house, and making things.

After attaining a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from the University of Missouri and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, Chris returned to the University of Missouri to serve as a lecturer for the School of Architectural Studies, then as Sustainable Design Program Manager. In this role, Chris was responsible for sustainability efforts in planning, design, construction and facility operations at the University. This work included the development of a campus framework of sustainable design guidelines, as well as monitoring campus development and acting as LEED project administrator on over 20 campus building projects.
Outside of MMA, Chris enjoys exploring the outdoors with his wife and two children, making furniture and tinkering with small projects.

Elizabeth completed her Master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Kansas while spending her capstone year in Paris, France. Born and raised in Webster Groves, Missouri, she is excited to return to Mackey Mitchell, having previously interned with the team. Elizabeth brings a deep-rooted passion for the urban landscape of St. Louis, and her interests in urban design and revamping historic structures align perfectly with our practice. Growing up with parents who are teachers, she has always been passionate about designing impactful educational spaces that will shape generations to come.
In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys traveling, reading memoirs, vintage shopping, making charcuterie boards, taking workout classes, and rewatching the Harry Potter movies. She hopes to continue finding opportunities and organizations to be involved in, giving back to the community.

Gwynn graduated Magna Cum Laude from Drury University with both her Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts (Digital Imagery) in 1999, receiving the AIA Henry Adams Medal. She joined the firm in 2005 and was named a Principal in 2017.
As a lead designer, Gwynn has over twenty years of experience with a passion for creating the whole building environment, seamlessly integrating interior and exterior. Responsible for developing the design concept and carrying its essence through to the finish materials, she has led design teams across the country on award-winning campus life projects including student housing, student centers, and academic buildings.
An artist at heart, Gwynn chose to practice architecture because the field encompasses all scales of design — from a piece of furniture to a campus master plan. Gwynn is an advocate for elevating design in the office and regularly facilitates the Design Think Tank as well as organizing the firm’s in house design critiques.

In October, 1968, Gene Mackey – with a passion for architecture and a will to succeed – took a risk. He opened a one-man office on the 20th floor of the Railway Exchange Building in downtown St. Louis with 800 square feet and a view of the Mississippi River.
Early years were highlighted by interesting small projects such as the Ellisville City Hall, offices for the law firm of Thompson Walther and Shewmaker, planning projects at the Washington University Medical Center, and a few house additions for friends.
Mackey quickly discovered that architecture is about “finding the opportunity to make relationships exist, then refining them so that design excellence is possible.” Over time, the firm’s intellectual vitality has evolved into a “think-tank” where each architectural endeavor becomes a process that stimulates an even broader idea, supporting the firm’s philosophy of life-long learning.

Indiana University's Rose Avenue Residence Hall is one of only three universities constructed in the US designed to adopt the principles outlined in ACUHO-I's 21st Century project - with the goal of creating the residence hall of the future.
Listed on the National Park Service Historic Registry, Cupples 9 was built in 1894 as a warehouse. Slated for demolition in 1989, Mackey Mitchell helped lead an urban development study that eventually saved the historic landmark.
