The 148,300 square foot Moreau Seminary will offer 105 thoughtfully designed rooms with a variety of living arrangements to support Men in Formation, Finally Professed residents, visiting religious, and family guests. The building is being renewed to include spaces that nurture both daily life and spiritual growth, including lounges, kitchens, classrooms, prayer rooms, a fitness and art room, and a health clinic, while preserving the calm and reverent environment vital for discernment. Sustainability and accessibility enhancements, including envelope upgrades and reimagined circulation paths, will ensure a welcoming and inclusive home for the Holy Cross community.
Shape
From the earliest stages, seminarians played an active role in shaping the design of their home. Through focus groups and workshops, we worked closely with residents and Holy Cross leadership to ensure the renovation would support both communal and individual needs. The design prioritizes strategic separation between public and private zones, preserving the dignity and quiet of residential life while energizing spaces for community engagement .More efficient programming and improved accessibility are helping to restore balance to a midcentury modern building that is being renewed to meet the evolving needs of the Holy Cross community.
Inspire
The Moreau Seminary renovation is fostering a renewed sense of home, reflection, and purpose for all who reside and work within its walls. The updated design brings greater clarity and care to shared spaces while enhancing privacy and comfort in the residential areas. With a focus on stewardship, the team is balancing preservation and progress, choosing a light touch where appropriate to allow greater investment in areas with the most community impact. The result will be a revitalized home that honors the legacy of Holy Cross while nurturing its future.
The new Moreau Seminary promises not only a modern space but also a transformative environment where the five dimensions of formation—human, pastoral, intellectual, spiritual, and communal—will flourish in new ways.
