Let There Be Light

The West County Assembly of God church in Chesterfield, Missouri invited Mackey Mitchell to develop fund-raising images and provide a planning study to make their space more cohesive, provide for a new children’s center, and suggest major improvements to update the lobby.  Over the years, a number of additions left the church with an uncohesive look.  A 1960’s A-frame port-cochere and small lobby made the entry dark and uninviting.  The architectural team of Gwynn Zivic, Marcus Adrian, and Jordan Gatewood came up with a number of options for re-positioning many of the spaces.  The new foyer with its welcoming desk can be likened to a “student center,” where people from the congregation can meet at the new coffee bar for conversations, or grab a book to read from a small library.  Large glass windows let in abundant natural light and provide views to the outside.  A simple addition to the highway side improves the building’s scale.  The next phase will include a new nursery, ministry and classrooms, along with a special chapel for kids.
