Updated, Innovative & Sustainable

Mackey Mitchell, in collaboration with Architect-of-Record Ross Tarrant Architects, has designed a renovation for Western Kentucky University’s Downing University Center, the main student center on campus which originally opened in 1970. In addition to all new building systems, the $49 million renovation will provide students with a 24-hour study lounge; larger and enhanced meeting rooms; a new recreation area on the first floor; new offices for student organizations; upgraded food services; balcony seating for the “Fresh Food Company,” and new entrances on both sides. The Centennial Mall side of the building has an outdoor terrace and dining area. With input from university students, the LEED-certified state-of-the art project will benefit the entire WKU community. The university has produced a video showing the renovation progress.
