Social Gathering Place at UAH

It’s almost time for students to enjoy a brand new place to get together at the University of Alabama Huntsville,  A contemporary, innovative student center will contain 90,000sf of space for retail, food vendors, dining and student activities. A new bridge will provide safe pedestrain traffic over a major street, and a plaza with wide, ground-level passages creates natural gathering spaces to increase student interaction.

Large expanses of glass will showcase student gatherings, highlighting the vibrancy of student life.  Plans are to use part of the building’s exterior surfaces as a canvas for night-time movie projections. Colored LED exterior light projections on building surfaces will further enhance “Charger spirit” or can be used for significant celebrations or social/community awareness programs. Mackey Mitchell designed this $25 million project with Turner Batson as the architect-of-record.  Mackey Mitchell’s project team included Gwynn Zivic, Jim Konrad, John Burse, Merrilee Hertlein, Clint Smith and Stacey Wehe.
