Draw!

The AIA St. Louis Chapter  Design Awards has posted their call for entries. Steven Dumez of Eskew+Dumez+Ripple will chair the architecture and interiors categories, while Gene Mackey, FAIA,  will chair the drawings category.  Gene has conducted several AIA sketch workshops and has produced a prolific number of drawings from his travels and of local landmarks. In 2008 he was presented with a Leslie N. Boney “Spirit of Fellowship Award” for his regular sketches of the Fellowship investiture ceremonies, a tradition he’s been upholding since the early 1990’s.

His recently published book, “Impressions of a European Journey” features letters and sketches by Gene’s father, Eugene J. Mackey, Jr. who sketched every city Gene and his dad visited on a life-changing trip they took in the spring of 1958. The 120-page  book is available on Amazon and at the AIA St. Louis bookstore. Gene firmly believes that the art of drawing is a powerful and versatile tool for seeing the world, composing ideas, working through details, and communicating with clients.
