Lecture on Architect Louis Sullivan

Louis Sullivan, called the “father of the skyscraper, the “father of modernism,” and the architect  who coined the modernist phrase “form follows function,” will be the subject of a lecture at the St. Louis Beacon Festival on Friday, June 3rd.  Gene Mackey, FAIA, founder of  Mackey Mitchell Architects, will show examples of Sullivan’s work and discuss his influence on St. Louis architecture featuring the Wainwright Building, the Railway Exchange Building (home to MMA’s first office); and the famous Wainwright Tomb.  The lecture takes place at 4:00 pm at the Hotchkiss Chapel at the historic Bellefontaine Cemetery  followed by a special tour of Sullivan’s Wainwright Tomb.  Check the Beacon Festival link for ticket prices and more information.
