Structural Art

An in-depth article about the striking atrium at the new Olin Business School at  Washington University in St. Louis is featured in the recent issue of  Structure Magazine. According to John P. Miller, a founding principal of the St. Louis office of KPFF Consulting Engineers, “Once in a while, a design team and an owner come together and the whole is truly more than the sum of its parts.” Such was the case for this stunning new 177,000SF building on WUSTL’s Danforth Campus.

The article gives a detailed description of the structure’s artistry, from conception through evolution, to completion of this soaring dynamic atrium roof structure that has become the architectural centerpiece of Olin’s Knight Hall and Bauer Hall. The project team included KPFF Consulting Engineers; Moore Ruble Yudell Architects and Planners; Mackey Mitchell Architects; Tarlton Corporation; Ben Hur Construction; and The Gateway Co.
